Recent data compiled by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) showed that more people resigned from their jobs in the past year compared to the previous 12 months despite the recession and tight job market. Its study questioned more than 40,000 individuals in almost 200 organisations and found 4.7 per cent of those surveyed resigned compared with 4.5 per cent from last year’s review.
Ruth Spellman, chief executive of the CMI, said: “The latest figures showing that staff are prepared to run the risk of unemployment by jumping ship and questions must be asked about employee engagement levels in organisations up and down the country.”
With evidence of this kind being published almost on a daily basis it is clear that many organisations across the UK do not understand the importance of employee engagement and even if they do they don’t have the know how to make it happen.
